Dear Parents/Guardians
We are excited to inform you that our school will be taking part in the Reading Riot 2026 National Reading Competition for Grade 6 learners.
Reading Riot is a South African literacy competition designed to improve learners’ reading skills in a fun and engaging way. The competition takes place through an app where learners are required to read passages and answer comprehension questions. This helps to develop both reading speed (fluency) and understanding (comprehension) — two key skills for academic success.
The competition is structured in rounds, where learners complete reading activities and progress based on their performance. It also creates a sense of excitement and healthy competition, as learners compete with others across the country while proudly representing their school.
Round 1 of the competition will begin on 18 May 2026.
To register your child, please scan the QR code attached and follow the instructions provided.
We kindly ask for your support in encouraging your child to participate and to begin preparing ahead of time. You can assist by:
- Encouraging daily reading at home
- Helping your child practice reading faster while understanding what they read
- Asking simple questions about what they have read to build comprehension skills
This competition is not only about winning prizes, but about building confidence, improving literacy, and developing a lifelong love for reading.
Let us work together to support our learners as they grow and shine.
Good Luck!
